We all have a Mental Health Journey, it’s never a straight line to the finish. It reminds me of the Road To Recovery, Mental Health Humor cartoon for the 2009 Cartoon-A-Thon.

IF our journey is to get to “Point D” you might think then we go to Points, A, B, and C to get there. Nope! Sometimes we start from Points “Z” and “1, 2, 3” add a “%” and “&” if we don’t get too distracted, we get to “point D.” You get my POINT! (Probably not!)
What is the point: our journey is our story, no matter how many twists and turns it takes or how confusing it may be. It is singularly ours and belongs to only us. We’re the Captains and, at times, the crew in the calm weather and stormy. Sharing our story can for many give empowerment, strength, and help that others know they’re not alone.
The Following is what Shana says about it:
Being a Mental Health Hero has meant so much to me. Having the opportunity to share my story with others has been very healing.
Where Are They Now: Mental Health Hero

It’s been 5 years already? Wow. Well basically I’m going to go off of my original submission.
One major thing I’m super proud of is that I did return to Martial Arts with my daughter and we both earned our 2nd degree Black belt together!! We have 1 year of training in towards 3rd degree. Currently on a break from it though as she is now in high school and schedules got tighter.
Another major change is I’m no longer with the “good man” I spoke of last time. After 12 years we split up. The relationship had turned toxic. I am learning how strong I am without him, however. I’m also learning a lot about home maintenance and taking care of property.
I’m doing better. Doctor said this is the best he’s ever seen me! Speaking of my Doctor, I had mentioned he was very sick 5 years ago and needed a heart transplant. Thank God for organ donors!! He did receive a heart. My heart goes out to his donor family. I know what they went through. (Donated my first husband’s organs.)
2 of my children are in college. Oldest will graduate in December with a degree in Electrical Engineering! My middle daughter is studying to be a teacher. My youngest will be a sophomore in high school next year. Taking driver’s ed classroom portion and will get her temps in August.
I still miss my career in Mammography. I have been thinking of places I maybe could volunteer at. We’ll see. Baby steps.
I wrote a lot last time about my basement. Well…flooding has happened a few times again. Recently happened twice in three weeks!! Always a fluke thing that caused it and never the same thing twice. I was surprised at how well I handled these past two episodes. I was calm. I even laughed! What else can you do?! Thank God for the plummer who answered my call 2 minutes before closing on a Friday night!!
Being a Mental Health Hero has meant so much to me. Having the opportunity to share my story with others has been very healing. Thank you so much Chato!!!
