The short answer, Marijuana (THC) would have to be an added ingredient. But there is something in Chocolate that is connected to THC–it’s called a cannabinoid. (Now this is cool, you have to keep reading.)
In the book, Nutrition For Dummies, 6th Edition by Carol Ann Rinzler says there’s a cannabinoid in Chocolate.
Anandamide is a cannabinoid, a chemical that hooks up to the same brain receptors that catch similar ingredients in marijuana smoke. Your brain produces some anandamide naturally, but you also get very small amounts of the chemical from cocoa bean products — chocolate. ~ Nutrition For Dummies (1)
You would/may assume having the effect of marijuana may reveal why aforementioned sweet tasty treat is so popular.
Rinzler also points out “You’d have to eat at least 25 pounds of chocolate at one time to get any marijuana-like effect.“(1) That is ALOT of chocolate!
There are other feel-good factors of Chocolate…being high in caffeine and theobromine and as a cannabinoid anandamide seem to be contributors to chocolate’s appeal.
Fox News did a great article I wanted to share some of it, till I read its permission. They ask “no material may be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.” So, I Googled the author.

Chocolate alters mental state in pleasurable ways. Anandamide a cannabinoid, a member of the same psychoactive substances found in cannabis. Anandamide binds to the same receptor sites in the brain as THC. And its effect? Anandamide produces a global feeling of euphoria. This compound may account for why some people become euphoric when they eat chocolate. The brain is a deep and mysterious organ, whose dark folds and gray crenellations are barely understood. But tickle the right neurons, and all heaven breaks loose. – Psyche Delicacies, By Chris Kilham (2)
I was amazed to learn that Cannabinoids are only found in our brain and in chocolate. I’m going to have to do more research about that… what about our MOOD?
