Many of my readers know that I’m a big guy that has been trying to lose weight for a LONG TIME! The last year, my weight has gone up and down with no stability and my Diabetes maxed out at an unhealthy and dangerous 400 mg/dL (Milligrams per Deciliter). The Normal range is 70 to 100 milligrams per deciliter.
Our blood sugar is considered a normal range at 70 mg/dL to 100 milligrams per deciliter. For the past year or more mine has been in the 200+ to 300+ mg/dL.
“if blood sugar gets up above 180 to 200, then it exceeds the capacity of the kidneys to reabsorb the glucose and we begin to spill glucose into the urine. And if it gets way up high, up in the 400s or even 500s, it can be associated with some alteration in mental function. And in this situation, if it persists for a long time, we can actually see mental changes as well. So either too low or very exceedingly high can cause changes in mental function.”– EDWARD S. HORTON M.D
Chato Stewart, Me, I’ve been on a diet/life style change since 2013. My max weight was 405lbs. Always Up and down with my weight. Most everything I try failed after two weeks. And I was stuck at 360-ish Lbs.

Chato Stewart and Diabetes
For the last month, I’ve tried the Keto (ketogenic) diet. Mostly for my out-of-control Diabetes, my A1C maxed out at 11. And I could never get my sugar under 200.
Today, after one month on the Keto diet, my A1C is down to 8 points. I am eating till I’m full and I can have food I like, so I don’t feel deprived.
Chato Stewart and Pizza and Keto Diet the Best Benefit?
I have had a long standing relationship with PIZZA. It has been there to cheer me up, it has helped validate me, and and it took care of all many other emotional needs at all hours of the day. The problem was I turned to pizza as a solution to my many issues. Sadly, I eat it for the wrong reason, and I could never stop at one slice, well, unless you consider the whole pie as one slice.
The Keto Diet What’s the best benefit?
On the Ketogenic Diet, I had to give up Pizza (for a while). Along with high carb’s like bread, wheat, and starches. How could I do it I thought. Yet, after a month sticking to the basics of low carbs and high fat I don’t miss Pizza at all. The best benefit for me is controlling diabetes. I feel better, even walked 2 miles (walking is something I could not do before.)
Over all I don’t feel hungry, I’m not craving sweets and I get to eat MEAT! Lots of meat and cheese, yum!
My Favorite food is stuffed mushroom:
The stuffing is a mix of Cream Cheese with Feta, bacon, and spinach.
–
And Salad with lots and lots of tomatoes!
–
My goal is to keep on the diet, one that allows me to eat bacon and maybe I will get under 300 pounds for the first time in 20+ years.
Not only has this saved me money but as of today I’m down 5lbs (but I know I put on weight before I started so the number for the last month is really 10lbs or more lost.) This brings my total weight loss to 60lbs since 2013. My new weight is 345.
Starting this week, I’m recording all my meals. I did not do it for the last month so I could get into keto diet without having to think about how much I was eating. I just used the strips to be sure I was in Ketosis.
I’ll keep you posted.
Please, if you are doing the Keto Diet or have in the past, please share helpful suggestions or recipes in the comments. Thanks.
