(chocolates) Are you an Empath, (chocolates) what is it like to be an empath (chocolates) – We all need to have empathy. This past month my goal was to use the Mental Health Humor cartoons to focus conversations on Empathy. The Life of An Empath cartoon is the last in this series. This suggests that Highly Sensitive people are aware and incredibly tuned into their emotional surroundings.
So there have to be many different degrees of empathy. That said then could we learn the skill set of an empath. Can anyone be an empath?
Empaths are creative and fun and caring, and they have a great sense of humor. And LOVE chocolates!
While focusing the post on one theme EMPATHY: (Empathy Or Sympathy, Empathy Or Sympathy part 2, What Empathy Is Not, Can Adults Learn Empathy, and Diagnosis and Empathy)
I came to realize that there are many layers to empathy. One such layer was that of the empath personality type, Highly Sensitive, hyper aware of moods.
What is the simple definition of an empath?
“being empathic only means that you are sensitive to other people’s feelings. This is both a talent and a skill. Often people who have this talent go into the helping professions. Refining that talent to a high level of skill is a lifelong effort for most of us who have chosen to be therapists or clergy or social workers, etc. Because they have a deep appreciation of other people’s emotions and the truths behind them, empaths are often compassionate, considerate, and understanding of others. From my point of view, being an empath is something to embrace and celebrate.” ~i Dr. Marie Hartwell-Walker is licensed as both a psychologist and marriage and family counselor.
The following blog posts are fascinating to read and the comments on “Do Empaths Exist” are a must read.
Are you and Empath? I hope you like chocolates.
The Highly Sensitive.
“Highly sensitive individuals are those born with a tendency to notice more in their environment and deeply reflect on everything before acting, as compared to those who notice less and act quickly and impulsively. As a result, sensitive people, both children and adults, tend to be empathic, smart, intuitive, creative, careful, and conscientious…” ~ Joss Stone
